Importance of a Mission Statement

Most people likely go into business to make money, which we of course need to support our lifestyle (unless you've won the lottery or inherited a fortune, but I digress). Beyond that, what's your business's true purpose?

Hopefully, your business fulfills a purpose beyond just making a buck. Your mission doesn't need to be altruistic, but it should be to express the value of what you do for others.

Your best-case scenario is, you love what you do and get paid for it while your business contributes to your community or society and creates value for others. At the very least, you hopefully enjoy what you do while delivering value to your customers. You should include the highlights of what you offer and why it's valuable for others in your mission statement.

Syzygy's mission is to help creative entrepreneurs manage their business finances and back office, so they're empowered to manage and grow their companies. We love doing it, love where we work, and know that we provide real value for our clients. By continually focusing on achieving this mission, we give both our clients and coworkers the best opportunities to thrive (and appreciate that we get the chance to!).

The beginning of the year is a great time to revisit your mission statement. What do you deliver, and why is it valuable for others? By ensuring that you're taking actions to achieve that mission, you'll feel confident in your work, motivated to address the highest priorities, and grateful every day you get to do what you love for a living.
